Van Dyke Havana Cuba romantic military tropical island musical ("Nights of romance under the tropic moon..."; about a "love 'em and leave 'em" type man who joins the Marines to "sow his wild oats" before getting married; he is stationed in Havana, Cuba and a beautiful peanut vendor falls in love with him, but he is quick to leave her when he gets orders to go to Europe at the start of World War I; he returns to Cuba ten years later to find that she has passed on, but he meets a little 9 year-old Cuban boy whose favorite song is the song he had shared with the woman that he had an affair with) starring Lawrence Tibbett, Lupe Velez, Ernest Torrence, Karen Morley, and Jimmy Durante ("The Screen's New Laugh Sensation"; billed as "'Schnozzle' Durante himself"!). Note that Lawrence Tibbett was a singer during the 1930s (but best remembered from the Metropolitan Opera), who appeared in several movies as, naturally, an opera singer. He was the first to play the leading role in many famous operas, including the role of Brutus Jones, in The Emperor Jones (which he played in blackface)! Darryl F. Zanuck signed him to a multi-picture contract, sure he would be a major star, but alas, he was not, and he only appeared in a few movies. Later, he had throat problems, which led to a drinking problem (or perhaps vice versa), and his later years were unhappy. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Gaston Studio Important Added Info: Note that this poster was created by Gaston Studio in the 1930s. This was a company that made special posters like these for theaters on then current movies. Since they were unusual shapes and sizes and on heavy boards, very few survive. This poster was likely removed from a board and is now glued to foamcore. While most collectors do not like this, I have seen many posters that have been mounted on foamcore for years, and it never has any ill effects on the poster, so I am not sure why there is a bias against it Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S. Condition: good. The poster has been mounted on to foam core and has signs of restoration (especially at upper right where there was some paper loss). It was possibly trimmed from a larger poster of unknown size and it has some scratches and scuff marks scattered in various areas. Please bear in mind these defects and please do not bid on this item unless you accept these defects. Learn More about condition grades
