The Alamo, the 1960 John Wayne Texas War of Independence cowboy western ("The screen's 12 million dollar spectacle! thousands in the cast! years in the making!"; "It took years to make... it cost $12,000,000 ...it will be remembered forever!"; "The mission that became a fortress... The fortress that became a shrine..."; "Mammoth thousands upon thousands in the cast!... 12 million dollars poured into its filming ...years in the making!"; "You'll Remember The Vast Armies Avalanching Across Mountain And Plain! You'll Remember The Awesome Siege of the Cannon! You'll Remember The Stand Of The 156 Men Against 7,000! You'll Remember Davy Crockett Standing On the Ramparts! You'll Remember The Daring Raid Into the Heart Of The Enemy Camp! You'll Remember The Unsung Exploit Of The Midnight Courier! You'll Remember The Charge of the Scarlet Plumes!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring John Wayne ("as Colonel David Crockett", better known as Davy Crockett), Richard Widmark ("as Colonel James Bowie"), Laurence Harvey ("as Colonel Wm. Barret Travis"), Frankie Avalon, Patrick Wayne, Linda Cristal, Joan O'Brien, Chill Wills (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Joseph Calleia, and Richard Boone (billed as "Guest Star Richard Boone"). Note that this movie was first announced by Republic Pictures in 1950, starring John Wayne, but for various reasons, the movie was never made at that time. Finally, Wayne was able to get it made (with himself as the director) a full decade later!

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this book! Note that the producers of this movie created this elaborate 184-page softcover book that they sent to 10,000 "theater owners, historical societies, the press, governmental officials, opinion control groups, libraries, schools, and churches"! They included a cover letter which states that they paid just under $15,000 to print the books and spent around $3,500 to mail them, and they add that "if the response to this release is as good as we anticipate, we are prepared to print 100,000 copies, as we have set aside a budget to cover same"! We imagine that their response was NOT what they anticipated, because they surely didn't print more of them, and, as noted above, we have only previously auctioned one other example of this book! Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads.

Condition: fair to good. There is light staining on the inside of the cover and some light staining in the left half of many pages, but they are not stuck together, and the staining is much more significant in the first 20 pages, and then it gets progressively lighter through the rest of the book. The cover letter has much wear and it was paper clipped to the cover, so there is a paper clip stain there.
