An Original Vintage Folded Political Campaign Poster (measures 16" x 21" [41 x 53 cm]) (Learn More) Herbert Hoover was President of the United States from 1929 to 1933. The Great Depression struck during his term and his inability to end the downward economic spiral lead to his defeat in the next election, even though many scholars do not fault him for causing the Depression, because the root causes of it began during Calvin Coolidge's term. However, many in the country DID fault Hoover for the Depression while it was going on, and the large groups of homeless people lived in shanty towns that were known as "Hoovervilles". The Hoover Dam was named in his honor. He passed away in 1964 at the age of 90. Artist: Louis Fabian Bachrach Sr. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is from when Herbert Hoover ran for reelection in 1932, and of course, his opponent was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It is likely that no one could possibly have won after having presided over the worst depression in American history, and Hoover did lose. Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters! Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair. The poster was originally folded and someone mounted it onto a very thin linen, with no excess. Either before or after it was backed, it acquired creases and small tears along the folds, with many creases, tears, and stains around the edges, with some small paper loss in the blank borders (see our image). Any talented restorer could remove this poster from the old linen and properly re-back it, but bear this in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
