An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Let Me Die a Woman, the 1977 Doris Wishman sexploitation sex change medical operation pseudo-documentary melodrama ("Born a man... Let Me Die a Woman"; "All true! All real! See a man become a woman before your eyes!"; "A Hygiene Film"; "Torn from today's headlines!"; "It's about real people...") starring Dr. Leo Wollman, Deborah Harten, Lisa Carmelle, Harry Reems, Frank Pizzo, and Leslie. Note that until recently, we (and everyone else) thought that this movie had been solely released in 1977 under the title "Let Me Die a Woman", with a glossy full-color one-sheet (indicating a fairly professional release at that time). But in 2016, we were consigned a one-sheet with the title "StrangeHer Adam or Eve", and that poster has a different tagline and was a 2-color one-sheet with a completely different image. We searched for more information and found a 1972 newspaper ad for a drive-in theater showing "StrangeHer Adam or Eve", but we could find almost nothing else. Luckily, we were contacted by Michael Bowen, who has studied the life and career of Wishman and is in the process of writing a book about her. He confirms that "StrangeHer Adam or Eve" WAS made by Wishman in 1972, and had a limited run in theaters. In 1977, Wishman created "Let Me Die a Woman" by taking large portions of "StrangeHer Adam or Eve", and adding footage of Dr. Leo Wollman and interviews with a transsexual named "Leslie". Because the two movies have significant differences and were released five years apart, we are listing them as two separate movies. Important Added Info: Note that this pressbook solely consists of a single half-sheet sized sheet printed on one side that has been folded to 11" x 14". It has a box that gives information about the accessories, and this may be the only "pressbook" created for this movie, or it may be that this is a cheaper version of the regular pressbook. Please do not bid on this unless you want this item, which does not look like a traditional pressbook. Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of the pressbook, plus an image of a two-page spread from inside of the pressbook (we do NOT picture any supplements or heralds, if there are any included with this pressbook), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. Learn More about condition grades
