A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 46 1/4" x 61 3/4" [117 x 157 cm]) (Learn More)

Terrot was a motorcycle manufacturer in Dijon, France from the 1890s to 1961. Charles Terrot and Wilhelm Stucklen had founded a machinery factory in Cannstatt, Germany in 1862, and Terrot added a branch factory in Dijon in 1887. In 1890 the Dijon factory added bicycles to its products, and in 1902 they made their first motorcycle. In 1929, the company produced its 100,000th motorcycle and in 1932, Terrot entered motorcycle racing. In 1958, Peugeot took over the company and in 1961, production ended at the former Terrot factory.
Artist: Faye
Important Added Info: Note that we can't say for certain when this poster is from, but it would seem to surely be from before the 1940s, and we found a website that said it is from the 1920s, so we are listing it that way. If anyone knows more about when this poster is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had small bits of paper loss and stains in the top right corner (in the background above the "T" and entering the top of the "T", and there may have been a snipe glued to that area. The poster also had small areas of paper loss below that in the front of the motorcycle, and entering the top of the "RRO", with some paper loss in the bottom of the "OT". It also had small areas of paper loss on parts of several folds and some uneven darkening and smudges scattered throughout the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
