A Limited Edition Art Print (with art by Paolo Rivera; 2/225; measures 17 1/4" x 24" [44 x 61 cm]) (Learn More) Weird Science was a science fiction comic book magazine published by EC Comics (E.C. Comics) from 1950 to 1953. Published by Bill Gaines and edited by Al Feldstein, the bi-monthly Weird Science replaced Saddle Romances with the May/1950 issue. Although the title and format change took effect with issue 12, Gaines and Feldstein decided not to restart the numbering in order to save money on second class postage. The Post Office took note and, starting with issue #5, all the issues were numbered correctly. Because of this, Weird Science #12 could refer to either the May 1950 issue, or the actual 12th issue published in 1952. The same confusion exists for issues #13-15, #15 being the last issue published before EC reset the numbering. The comic ran 22 issues and featured science fiction stories by some of the most famous writers and artist from the early 1950s. Both comics had stories written by Gaines and Al Feldstein, and art by Wally Wood, Al Williamson, Al Feldstein, and many others, and they even adapted stories by famed science fiction writer Ray Bradbury. This was one of two EC science fiction comic titles published by Bill Gaines (later publisher of Mad Magazine). The other was Weird Fantasy. They did not sell nearly as well as the horror titles, but Gaines and Feldstein loved science fiction, and they stuck by these titles, although when sales declined, they combined them into a single title called "Weird Science-Fantasy", which then further changed to "Incredible Science Fiction". Since the ending of publication, all of the EC comics have been reprinted many, many times, in many formats, and there have been several movies and TV series based on them! Artist: Paolo Rivera Important Added Info: Note that this art print has been hand-numbered 2/225! This is one of 2,346 auctions for Mondo/Alamo Drafthouse prints from the personal collection of Tim League, co-founder and Executive Chairman of Alamo Drafthouse! All 2,346 auctions begin on November 29th, and all close December 13th, starting at around 3:00 PM CST, a few seconds apart! All the prints are being auctioned by eMoviePoster.com, and will ship to the winning bidders from eMoviePoster.com, who WILL combine purchases into as few packages as possible (and they can also be combined with purchases from "non-Mondo" eMoviePoster.com auctions, only charging the actual cost of shipping, plus $3 for packing materials). Please know that 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go towards paying staff of the Alamo Drafthouse and paying debt and expenses accrued during the COVID closures. And eMoviePoster.com has slashed its commission rates, so that we too can do all we can to support this most worthwhile cause. Whether you are a prior collector of Mondo prints or if you have never purchased one of them before, you surely have a movie fan in your life who would like something unique under their Christmas tree this year (or maybe you want to give it to yourself!). Our deepest thanks to everyone who participates in this very special set of 2,346 auctions! Condition: fine. The limited edition art print is in very nice condition and it displays quite well! An important note about the condition of the print in this auction (or, in the case of 25 of the auctions, prints). It comes from the personal collection of Tim League, and it has been carefully stored since it was first printed. In the case of all but 46 of the 2,344 of the prints, it is in wonderful condition, and likely looks exactly as it did when it was printed, and we give all those our "fine" grade, which is the highest grade we give (and which equates to most dealers' "mint" grade). In the case of a very small number of the prints (46 in all!), it acquired one or more defects, and in those cases we give it a lower grade, and explain in words what those defects are. If you like purchasing limited edition prints in wonderful condition, THIS is the auction for you! Learn More about condition grades
