NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that 2001: A Space Odyssey opened in 70mm in 1968 in a roadshow release. In 1969 it went into wide release in 35mm, and the movie was not as successful. The film was then given an entirely new 70mm New York City ad campaign in March 1970. That proved successful and the movie received a national release in 1970 (part of the continuous first release since 1968), and the one-sheet for this release shows the star child (but it has less color than the "wildposting" one-sheet used in New York). Also, this poster has an NSS number of 68/103 at upper left and right but it has a 1970 copyright date at bottom left. It is only the second time we have ever auctioned this style B half-sheet (and the last time it sold for $435)! Condition: good. The poster was unevenly hand-folded horizontally and several times vertically (see our image). It has a few faint dot stains scattered in various areas and a larger drip stain at lower right and some tape staining on back (that has no effect on the front). Certainly the ultra-rare poster could be restored and paperbacked and it would look great, but please bear in mind its defects and cost of restoration before placing a bid.
