An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) a John Wayne Vitagraph stock poster used by theaters to advertise John Wayne Vitagraph cowboy western movies. John Wayne made six movies for Vitagraph in 1932 and 1933, and this poster must have been created at that time. Theaters would order this poster, which has a blank area at lower left where the title of the specific film being shown could be added, thus getting many posters for the price of one. It is definitely possible that some of these were used after 1933, because Wayne continued to make movies for other studios, but the poster was surely created in one of those two years. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that in the case of this poster, the theater was showing the 1932 John Wayne movie, Ride Him Cowboy, and they wrote in that title in the area at bottom left. Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had some tears in the left and right borders and some faint smudges scattered throughout. Overall, the card was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was nicely backed, but the restorer left alone the faint smudges, which are not very distracting (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
