An Original Vintage 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] Television Still (Learn More)

The Jack Benny Program (also known as "The Jack Benny Show"), the 1950 - 1965 Frederick De Cordova television (TV) comedy sketch series starring Jack Benny, Don Wilson, Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson, Dennis Day, May Livingstone, and Mel Blanc. In 1959, there was a special episode of this show that was an hour long and had special guest performers, and again in 1966, after the show ended its regular run, there was another special hour long episode, and both of those shows were titled "The Jack Benny Hour".

Important Added Info: What a wonderful early television still this is! That's because it shows Julie Andrews very early in her career (so early in fact, that she is almost unrecognizable from how she looked just a few years later when she achieved major stardom with My Fair Lady on Broadway and Mary Poppins in the movies). What is really strange is that we can't find any reference online to her appearing on the show on the date the still says, which is May 23, 1959. It is possible that she was "bumped" from the show and did not appear, or of course, the online sources may simply be incorrect. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this still is from the first showing of the 4/30/59 episode of "The Jack Benny Hour". We know that for certain because it has the date printed on the snipe on the back. It is very hard to find stills from 1950s or 1960s TV episodes that are absolutely from the first release, and are surely not from a 1960s or 1970s re-broadcast. Also note that this TV still measures 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm].

Condition: fair. There are two grease pencil lines in the left of the image, one of which falls in Andrews' cheek. There is a 1" tear in both the top and bottom borders that were both repaired with tape from the back. There are some creases and smudges scattered around the edges. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this still.
