An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Portugal To-Day, the 1927 silent travelogue documentary short ("'The world we live in'") featuring information about the people and places of Portugal. Note that this was one of a series of "Fox Varieties" travelogues, which this studio made between 1923 and 1928. It is likely that none of these exist, due to the Fox vault fire in 1937. If anyone knows more about this short (or the series), please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that not only have we never auctioned this poster before, but we have never auctioned any poster from this travelogue series!

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and pretty minor wear on the folds. It had a few tears around the edges. It had a 7" tear in the right of the top border that had some paper loss along the tear. It extended through the green border into the yellow line above the second "E" of "VARIETIES" and affected the end of the top and bottom of that same "E", and extended down into the "L" at the end of the title. There was paper loss in the bottom of that "L" and the paper loss grew much larger beneath it, extending into the top right corner of the image (affecting a thin slice of the white and red backgrounds, and extending all the way over to the right border, affecting the green background and the white border, and this area was 3" wide at its widest. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer expertly repaired the tear and replaced the missing area at top right described above, and while it affected a few of the letters and a small part of the background in the top right corner of the image, otherwise, it was solely green background area, and it was easy for the restorer to see exactly what restoration needed to be done. The image area had almost no restoration, and the poster will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall.
