An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (30x40; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) The Incredible Shrinking Man, the classic 1957 Jack Arnold science fiction (sci-fi) miniaturization fantasy adventure thriller ("A fascinating adventure into the unknown!"; "The most incredible story the screen has ever told!"; "Every hour he gets smaller.... Smaller... Smaller and moment by moment the terror mounts!..."; "Victim of Weird mist!"; "Day by Day he shrinks!"; "Science is baffled!"; "Cat becomes monster!"; "Terror at every turn!"; "Deadly spider attacks!"; "Lost in a floods fury!"; a highly literate screenplay by Richard Matheson from his own novel; surprisingly, the studio did not force Matheson to tack on an artificial "happy" ending, and it is lucky, for most people think the movie's actual ending is wonderful!; the special effects are primitive by today's standards, but they are very powerful, and work just fine) starring Grant Williams (in the title role), Randy Stuart, April Kent, Paul Langton, Raymond Bailey, William Schallert, and Orangey (as the cat Butch; Orangey was also Cat in "Breakfast At Tiffany's!") NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Reynold Brown Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare poster. We have previously auctioned just about every size of U.S. poster from this movie, including the 40x60, but this is the very first time we have auctioned this 30x40! Note that this 30x40 is a silkscreen printed poster with an actual black & white photo which has neatly been "tipped in" (glued to the upper left corner of the poster). This is how almost all 30x40s were made at this time! Paper banners were also commonly made in this way at that time, and it makes for a striking poster, and few people would realize that it is not printed on a single piece, unless they examine the poster closely. Note that the silkscreen portions of this poster usually pick up scuff marks far more easily than other posters of this period (this was caused by the method of silkscreen printing, and is very common on these posters, and is not considered a major defect, unless it is very noticeable or distracting). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was never folded, typical of 30x40s. However, it had a great number of creases and scuffs scattered throughout (sadly, also typical of 30x40s of this period). It had many creases around the edges, with some small tears and some paper loss in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed with no real restoration. Backing it has minimized how noticeable the creases and scuffs are, but they are still quite noticeable (although fortunately, the tipped-in image at top left does not have creases and scuffs, so it displays much better than the rest of the poster, and will mean that it will display pretty well on the new owner's wall). However, please look closely at our super-sized image before bidding on this extremely rare poster. Learn More about condition grades
