Date Sold 7/23/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Pressbook (pb; measures 15" x 22" [38 x 56 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) King Solomon of Broadway, the 1935 Alan Crosland New York City theater stage play musical romantic melodrama ("Hear... These tantalizing tunes: That's What You Think, Flower In My Lapel, Moanin' In The Moonlight, La Cabanna (Rumba)") starring Edmund Lowe, Dorothy Page, Pinky Tomlin, Edward Pawley (billed as "ED. Pawley"), Louise Henry, and Charles Grapewin. Dorothy Page had a very interesting background! She married a doctor in 1925 when she was 21, and in the early 1930s, they were struggling, and she auditioned for Paul Whiteman, and became a singer with his band. In 1935, she was signed by Universal and appeared in two movies, but they dropped her. In 1937, Grand National, which was on the verge of bankruptcy after their disastrous loss on Something to Sing About, signed her to become "The Singing Cowgirl", and they made four movies with her over two years, but those did not do well, and the series was killed. She had several marriages and personal misfortunes, and she passed away in 1961 at the age of 57. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned this pressbook once before, and that was 17 years ago! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle and is separating at the left and right of that fold. Learn More about condition grades
