5d0126 BLOCK SIGNAL style B 1sh 1926 art of young sexy Jean Arthur & her dad Ralph Lewis, ultra rare!

An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Style B One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 26 3/4" x 40" [68 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

The Block Signal, the 1926 Frank O'Connor silent railroad romantic melodrama ("A thrilling romance of the roaring rails"; "A thrilling railroad romance"; about an aging railroad man who is becoming color blind, and he is having trouble with the railroad signals that are red and green, and a younger man refuses to cover for him, even though he is in love with the older man's pretty daughter) starring Ralph Lewis, Jean Arthur, Sidney Franklin, Hugh Allan, and George Chesebro. Note that between 1910 and 1915 railroads adopted a new system of red and green signals which were much superior to the old system, but they discovered that some railroad men were colorblind, and their careers were ruined! Also note that Jean Arthur had been in a lot of movies since 1923, but this was one of her earlier better roles (and she was second billed). But it was not until the coming of sound that she became a true star!

Important Added Info: Note that any movie paper from this 1926 Jean Arthur movie is incredibly rare. 17 years ago we sold a different example of this same poster, but otherwise we have never sold ANY movie paper from this title. Note also that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 26 3/4" x 40" [68 x 102 cm].

Condition: fair to good. The poster has diagonal marks in Arthur's face, arm and hands that look to have been made with a blue grease pencil. There is a diagonal cut in the lower center of the image that goes through the background above Graves' leg and into his chest. There is tape on the back of that cut and also tape on the back of the right half of the middle fold and much of the bottom one third of the vertical fold. Someone once taped the poster to a wall with clear tape on all four borders, and they first folded back 1" of the top blank border before putting the tape on that border. The poster also has some light water staining scattered in the left and right borders. Obviously this poster has very real defects, but it is also certainly true that a talented restorer can "rescue" it, but bear all of the above in mind before bidding on this very rare poster.
