Date Sold 10/3/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Angels Wash Their Faces, the 1939 Ray Enright juvenile delinquent teen gang melodrama sequel ("From an idea by Jonathan Finn"; the sixth entry in the series, with Ronald Reagan stepping in to the kind of role previously played by Bogart, Cagney, and Garfield) starring Ann Sheridan, The Dead End Kids (including Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall, Billy Halop, Bernard Punsly, and Gabriel Dell), Ronald Reagan, Bonita Granville, Frankie Thomas, Margaret Hamilton, Marjorie Main, and Henry O'Neill. Note that this was technically not a sequel to either "Dead End", "Crime School", or "Angels with Dirty Faces" (the three Dead End Kids movies which preceded this one), but it has the Dead End Kids, and a very familiar plot (in this one, Ann Sheridan is Frankie Thomas' sister, and Frankie is framed by a local mobster, and DA Ronald Reagan helps prove the boy's innocence). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that when this movie was first released in 1939, the lobby cards were printed on a "linen-like" paper that Warner Bros. used from the mid 1930s to the early 1940s. Toward the end of World War II, when all of their top stars were away in uniform, Warner Bros. started re-releasing many of their 1930s titles, but because they had switched to printing lobby cards on the regular paper stock, those re-releases can be distinguished from the first releases (they often have exactly the same images otherwise). This regular paper stock card is from a 1940s re-release. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.
UPDATED 10/02/2019: Note that a knowledgeable collector pointed out that first release lobby cards for this movie should be on "linen" paper stock (please see above for more info). First release cards are very rare and we have never auctioned one nor can we find examples online (the collector does have examples of the first release cards). Even the 1940s re-release cards are rare and this is only the 5th card that we have seen. Condition: good. There is a faint diagonal crease running down the center of the card (it runs from the right of the top border, through the left half of Thomas' face, and down through the center of Ann Sheridan's credit). There was a tiny hole in Sheridan's upper arm and someone performed restoration to that area. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card.
