A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 5 3/4" x 8 1/4" [15 x 21 cm]; 372 pages) (Learn More) Night Unto Night, the 1949 Don Siegel romantic epileptic biochemist melodrama ("The night hid their love... But it couldn't hide their secret!"; "Day after day you'll keep remembering it's heart-gripping story of a great devotion!"; "There is nothing you can't tell the woman you love"; "Their love-making is making history!"; "From the novel by Philip Wylie") starring Ronald Reagan, Viveca Lindfors, Broderick Crawford, Rosemary DeCamp, Osa Massen, Craig Stevens, and Art Baker. Note that this movie started filming in 1947, after Don Siegel completed "The Verdict" in 1946. But for reasons we could not find anywhere, the movie was not released until 1949. In the past, we had sold stills with a 1947 copyright date, and we thought that those were the only items prepared in 1947, but in 2016, we were also consigned a great full-color window card that was printed in 1947 (it has a 1947 copyright and NSS number, and it also says "in her wonderful American debut" under Lindfors' credit). When the movie was finally released in 1949, the same art was used on the window card, but now it was only 2-color (and Lindfors' credit was removed, since it was no longer true, and the racy tagline "Their love-making is making history!" was also removed), and the same is true of all the other first release posters! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is the Grosset & Dunlap photoplay edition of this novel in its original dust jacket. This book has the original dust jacket. Here are more details about these books: Grosset & Dunlap was a publisher that made a deal with all the studios in the 1910s to publish "movie edition" hardcovers of novels that were currently adapted into movies (there were also some by other publishers, but Grosset & Dunlap printed the lion's share of these). They would republish the original novel as the movie came out (or soon after), and they would put a dust jacket on the book that showed the stars of the movie, and they would usually include several pages of images from the movie scattered in the book. Oddly, in the case of this movie edition, they did not include any images from the movie within the book, but the stars' images are on the cover of the dust jacket. Perhaps it was published before the movie even was ready, so they did not have access to images from the film. These books were incredibly popular in the 1920s and 1930s, and they are quite collectible, especially if they still have the original dust jacket! Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Because we know that the dust jacket is an important part of the value of this book, we also pictured the entire dust jacket opened up. Between that image and our other images, you should be able to get a good sense of the overall condition of this book. Condition: fair to good. Learn More about condition grades
