An Undated (probably late 1940s) Re-Release Theatrical Belgian Movie Poster (measures 10 1/2" x 15 1/4" [27 x 39 cm]) (Learn More) Marked Woman, the 1937 Lloyd Bacon & Michael Curtiz bad girl prostitution crime murder thriller ("A Star Teaming You'll Never Forget!!!"; "The Kind Ladies Don't Talk To!"; "Meet the girls who got caught in a racket!"; "You work the way I tell you, or else!"; about a "party girl", whose sister is murdered, and a crusading DA convinces her to testify against the gangsters who killed her sister) starring Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Lola Lane, Isabel Jewell, Eduardo Ciannelli, Jane Bryan, Rosalind Marquis, Mayo Methot (who was married Bogart in real life the year after this movie, and they stayed married until he left her for Lauren Bacall), Allen Jenkins, John Litel, Ben Welden, Henry O'Neill, and Raymond Hatton. Note that after the Production Code was instituted, references to prostitution had to be carefully disguised, and Davis' character was described as a "hostess" in a club run by gangsters, but everyone watching the movie knew what she really did for a living! Also note that this was one of the many movies Humphrey Bogart made after his great success of "The Petrified Forest" in 1936. But even though he got second billing in this movie, Warner Bros. did not see him as having strong box office appeal, and they left him off most of the posters, focusing on "bad" Bette Davis! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is from right after World War II, and is printed in the smaller size, which was common in Belgium at that time, due to paper shortages (some of the posters were printed on the backs of maps or other posters). While most posters from during World War II and right after are printed on the backs of maps or other posters, this poster has the really cool distinction of being printed on the back of an advertisement for Brie cheese, which we have never seen before! It may or may not have been trimmed (because while it has no blank top, and measures 10 1/2" x 15 1/4", some of the posters from Belgium at this time were not printed with blank tops, to conserve on paper). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. The poster is printed on the back of a cheese advertisement that fortunately does not affect the front. The poster had a tax stamp in the bottom that fell off and there are stains in that area (see our image). There was a snipe attached to the top that is no longer present, and there are stains and paper residue in that area. There are some small tears around the edges. There is a crease at bottom center and some creases and scuffs scattered throughout the image (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
