Cyrano et d'Artagnan (literally translates to "Cyrano and D'Artagnan"), the 1964 Abel Gance French/Italian/Spanish swashbuckling adventure thriller (loosely based on the characters created by Alexandre Dumas AND Edmond Rostand) starring Jose Ferrer (in the title role as Cyrano de Bergerac), Jean-Pierre Cassel (in the title role as D'Artagnan), Sylva Koscina, Dahlia Lavi, Michel Simon, Rafael Rivelles (as Cardinal Richelieu), Laura Valenzuela (as Queen Anne), and Philippe Noiret (as King Louis XIII). Note that master French filmmaker Abel Gance wrote the story and the screenplay for this movie which imagines Cyrano de Bergerac meeting the leader of the Three Musketeers! He had the interesting idea of having Jose Ferrer recreate his Academy Award-winning performance from Cyrano de Bergerac, and he also cast three other American actors in lead roles, but because they did not speak French, this required their parts to be dubbed, which detracts from the movie, especially to those familiar with Jose Ferrer's true voice. As with other of Gance's movies, he attempted more than he was able to deliver, but this movie is still worth seeing!

Important Added Info: Note that these are "country of origin" posters for this partially Italian movie! Also note that this auction also includes the printed envelope this item originally came with! Finally, note that these posters were folded at one time but have been laying flat for a long time and they will be sent rolled in a tube.

Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. Note that this item (and others we are auctioning in this set of auctions) come to us from the estate of Lee Sanders. Mr. Sanders was a nationally recognized projectionist, film poster collector, and union activist who passed away last year, and the net proceeds from the sale of his varied and eclectic collection will be donated to promote film studies at the Besant School of Happy Valley in Ojai, Ca.
