Robertson silent rich-man-vs-poor-squatters romantic melodrama ("From the novel by Grace Miller White by Arrangement with Adolph Zukor"; about a wealthy man who builds a fancy house on top of a hill, and a group of poor people live at the bottom of the hill, and one of the poor people is a beautiful young lady, and she must fend off the rough men who desire her, while falling in love with the rich man's son and caring for the rich man's illegitimate daughter) starring Mary Pickford (in the title role as Tessibel 'Tess' Skinner), Lloyd Hughes, Gloria Hope, David Torrence, and Forrest Robinson. Note that the novel this movie was based on was written in 1909. In 1914, Mary Pickford starred in an adaptation of the book that was pretty faithful to it. In this movie, a remake from eight years later, the plot of the movie was changed from that of the source novel, no doubt to make it better fit now major star Mary Pickford! Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still (and the other stills that carry this paragraph) are from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and all were stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that they came from this legendary collection. Condition: good to very good. The still was slightly trimmed on the blank borders and there is a piece of tape on the back of each corner. Learn More about condition grades
