An Autographed Letter (measures 7" x 8 1/2"; 1 page) (Learn More)

Admiral Jeremy Michael 'Mike' Boorda was a U.S. Navy officer from the 1950s to the 1990s. He achieved the rank of Admiral and served as the 25th Chief of Naval Operations, and is best remembered as being the first enlisted sailor to rise through the ranks to attain that rank. He passed away in 1996 at the age of 56, after committing suicide. He committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest after leaving suicide notes reported to contain expressions of concern that he had tarnished the reputation of the Navy, following a media investigation into the legitimacy of his having worn on his uniform two service ribbons with bronze "V" devices, which indicate the awards were for service in a combat zone. The "V" devices are by regulation only to be awarded to personnel who participated in actual combat, and Boorda had not. Boorda had removed the two ribbon devices on his uniform almost a year before he died and was generally perceived as having made a good faith error in believing he was authorized to wear the devices.
Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Jeremy Michael Boorda! Our consignor (who was a diplomat for the U.S. in exotic locations) obtained this autograph through personal correspondence with Mr. Boorda (in the case of this one letter, it was written to the Ambassador to Jordan). Many of the people she corresponded with specifically mentioned that they were impressed by her exotic address and they seem to write longer responses because of that!

Condition: very good. There is a small stain in the lower right background area.
