Others called him a heel"; "It's Terrific!"; loosely based on the life of William Randolph Hearst; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; many people consider it the finest movie ever made) starring Orson Welles (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Charles Foster Kane), with the members of Welles' "Mercury Actors", who had previously acted with him on stage, Joseph Cotten (as Jedediah Leland), Dorothy Comingore (as Susan Alexander Kane), Everett Sloane (as Mr. Bernstein), Ray Collins (as Jim W. Gettys), George Coulouris (as Walter Parks Thatcher), Agnes Moorehead (as Mary Kane, Kane's mother), Paul Stewart (as Raymond), Ruth Warrick (as Emily Monroe Norton Kane), Erskine Sanford (as Herbert Carter), William Alland (as Jerry Thompson), Fortunio Bonanova (as Signor Matiste), Buddy Swan (as Kane at age 8), Harry Shannon (as Kane's father), and Alan Ladd (in one of his early incredibly tiny parts, but he does have a single speaking line!) Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this first release scene card, and that was in a complete set 30 years ago! We are also currently auctioning a different first release scene card (which we have also not auctioned in 30 years) in a separate auction! We recently auctioned the scene card with Ray Collins threatening Welles, and that card sold for $1,268, but this card (and the other card we are currently auctioning) are both clearly superior to that one! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. The card has a thin vertical stain in the ear of Welles' head in the banner (it may be a tiny water stain, but it is difficult to know). It also has pinholes in the corners. It has some faint smudges down the left, with faint paint stains scattered in the top and bottom blank borders. Other than the thin stain described above, the image and credits area are in nice condition. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! In our opinion, the above defects are relatively minor and this extremely rare and desirable card can absolutely be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or certainly, any degree of restoration could be performed, with or without backing the card.
