An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Sea Hawk, the 1940 Michael Curtiz swashbuckling romantic pirate adventure thriller ("Never before so many thrills! Never such adventure, such romance! Sail to high adventure with 'The Robin Hood of the Sea'!"; set in the time of the war between England and Spain, and the English navy has had no success against the Spanish armada, and in desperation, Queen Elizabeth hires a buccaneer to see what he can do, and of course, he has much success!) starring Errol Flynn, Brenda Marshall, Claude Rains, Donald Crisp, Flora Robson (as Queen Elizabeth I), Alan Hale Sr., and Henry Daniell

Important Added Info: Note that this is a Warner Bros. non-linen lobby card (there are also linen lobby cards on this title). Some people believe the non-linen cards to be from 1940 as the linen cards are, but we believe them to be from an early 1940s re-release. When Warner Bros.' top stars all enlisted in World War II, Warner Bros. re-released many of their top titles, and the non-linen cards are from 1942 to 1945 re-releases. Also, note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

UPDATED 12/12/2016: Note that this lobby card is from a 1940s re-release, and not the 1940 first release as we originally mentioned. We have also updated the Important Added Info section.

Condition: good to very good. The card had pinholes and smudges around the edges, with tiny paper loss in two areas of the blank borders. It had faint smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above border defects (but they left alone the faint smudges and scuffs in the image area), and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. You can see slight signs of the restoration (and the smudges and scuffs in the image area are noticeable when you look closely), but from any reasonable viewing distance, the card displays really well!
