Rita Hayworth was born in 1918. During the early 1940s she was one of the greatest sex symbols the movies has ever had, most notably in the 1946 movie, Gilda. But she was born Margarita Cansino, and was originally a child dancer with her father. She later caught the attention of Harry Cohn at Columbia, who cast her as a sexy dancer in some late 1930s movies, first billing her as Rita Cansino, and then renaming her to Hayworth (her mother's maiden name). Cohn did all he could to get rid of her Spanish ethnicity, changing her name, having her dye her black hair red, and having her hairline raised! She made many memorable dance movies (including ones opposite both Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly!), but she is probably best remembered for her five steamy melodramas opposite Glenn Ford. She had a tumultuous private life, marrying five times, most memorably to Orson Welles and Prince Aly Khan (this was before Grace Kelly married her prince!). Her most famous quote (explaining why she married so many times) was "Every man I have ever known has fallen in love with Gilda and awakened with me." She exhibited erratic behavior in her later years because she suffered from early Alzheimer's, which went undiagnosed for quite some time. Rita passed away in 1987 at the age of 68. In those later years, she was cared for by her daughter, Princess Yasmin Khan, who has also been a champion of raising money for Alzheimer's research. She is also best remembered for her roles in The Lady from Shanghai, Only Angels Have Wings, Separate Tables, Tales of Manhattan, and many others!
Important Added Info: Note that this is a really cool and unusual special magazine entirely devoted to Rita Hayworth. It was made by Columbia Pictures in 1947, and it was sent to newspaper and magazine editors, no doubt in the hopes that they would reproduce some of many of the images contained within. There is an interior page that says "the photograph in this book is by Robert Coburn and was obtained while Columbia was filming "The Lady From Shanghai". The introduction says that the book was conceived because Rita Hayworth is the personification of beauty, because she has an incredible figure, an exquisite face, glorious hair, and a wonderful personality, which represents the ultimate expression of feminine loveliness (I have condensed and paraphrased what is written, but this is the gist of it). It states that this book "may well become a library item for future generations as well as a vivid visualization of standards of beauty in our time". There is a one-page biography of Miss Hayworth at the end of the book, and there is a supplementary page, which pictures tiny images of all the pages, and says that editors can obtain prints of these from Columbia Pictures. We don't know if this book was also sold to the public, but we doubt it, because there is no publishing information, and no price. If anyone knows more about this magazine, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note: We have 12 images of the magazines in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 12 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 2.

Condition: good to very good. There is staining around the edges of the front cover and on most of the back cover. There are some small tears in the right of the cover and some tears and paper loss at the bottom of the blank spine. The interior pages (with all the great prints of Hayworth on a fairly heavy paper) are mostly in excellent condition (see our images).
