An Original Vintage Unfolded Stage Play Poster (measures 28" x 42" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) Uncle Tom's Cabin, the circa 1900s stage play adaptation of Harriet Beecher Stowe's classic novel, which helped bring about the end of slavery and the Civil War, thanks to its depiction of the cruel treatment of African American slaves in the South. Note that we have seen posters from this stage play production that were dated from 1890 to 1930s. Posters from any stage production of Uncle Tom's Cabin are incredibly difficult to accurately date (unless they are dated, of course, but virtually none are). This is because there were endless stage productions of this play from 1890 on, all over the U.S. We have no doubt that companies would print posters that local touring companies would order, which would explain why they rarely had any credits of any kind, no doubt so they could be used by any touring company. So please keep in mind the possible wide dating range when bidding. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a really interesting poster! It is probably from the 1920s, and by this time, audiences were so familiar with the story of Uncle Tom's Cabin, that the producers felt they didn't need to make a poster showing scenes from the play, but rather they made this really cool horizontal poster with a stone litho image of the "Mammoth Pavilion Theatre" so that everyone could know just how large (and first rate) a production this was (no doubt there were other traveling productions with smaller casts and sets)! The poster measures 28" x 42". Also note that this is one of a group of recently discovered stage play and movie posters from the 1920s, which are being auctioned now, each in their own separate auction. Each of the posters is unfolded, but all have varying degrees of damage around the edges (see our individual condition description of each). All can be professionally linenbacked and restored, but we wanted to offer them unrestored, both so that the bidders could see exactly what condition each poster is in, and also so that the high bidder of each poster could choose the restorer of their choice, plus decide how much restoration each poster should have! Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. There are small tears around the edges with some tiny paper loss in the left of the top blank border. There is a 4" tear in the right of the bottom border. Since there is very little paper loss that is not blank white paper, this will be a relatively easy linenbacking and restoration!
