An Original Vintage Unfolded Window Card Radio Advertising Poster (WC; measures 14" x 21" [36 x 53 cm]) (Learn More)

Derby Day, the 1936 poster ("May 2nd"; "Mr. Kool will broadcast the Kentucky Derby"; "Owner William Woodward jockey W. Saunders") advertising the radio broadcast of the most important horse racing event of each year (the Kentucky Derby) held in Churchill Downs, Kentucky. Note that this poster features art of Omaha the horse ("Omaha, winner of the Kentucky Derby 1935") with his jockey wearing a wreath of roses. The radio broadcast was sponsored by Kool cigarettes, and there is a great image of a pack of Kools in the bottom right corner, and a greater image of their mascot, "Mr. Kool" (the penguin), who is smoking and holding a riding crop as he talks into the radio microphone! Also note that this was the 62nd running of the horses, and the year that Bold Venture won!
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this window card!

Condition: good. The bottom right corner of the card was separated and someone taped it back on from the reverse, and there is tiny paper loss along that area. There is also a 3" tear in the bottom border that has tape on the reverse. There is a 1 1/2" tear in the upper right border that was repaired with tape from the back. There is some tiny paper loss in the right border. There is a tack hole and surface paper loss at the bottom of the "K" of "KOOL" at top center, with tears by it (see our image). There are many tiny stains and smudges scattered throughout the card. This wonderful rare card could still be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or one could choose to have it restored, but either way, the new owner will have a wonderful poster on their wall!
