An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 120 pages) (Learn More) The Havana Colony, the 1975 movie script written by Paul Schrader. Schrader wrote this screenplay right after he wrote the screenplay for The Yakuza, and before he wrote the screenplay for Taxi Driver, but this script was never produced (the rights to it were bought by Paramount, but a movie has never materialized). It is set in Havana, Cuba in 1959, and the main character is named Frank Luger, and he is a 45 year old World War II veteran, and also mercenary and professional gambler, and he is now the casino manager of the "Oasis Casino". Schrader describes him as "the ideal host: romantic, sophisticated, and thoroughly amoral". He goes on to say that "the particular tragedy of Luger's life is that he thinks he's Humphrey Bogart and that the name of the movie is Casablanca, when he discovers too late that he's Marlon Brando and it's been Last Tango in Paris all along". Perhaps one day this script will finally be filmed! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this script is the revised first draft and the screenplay was written by Paul Schrader. Note that this script was personally sent by Paul Schrader to Charles Shyer. Mr. Shyer tells us that "Paul and I were friends back in the day... and we'd exchange screenplays. I also liked his screenplay writing style - and found it instructive." This is one of seven scripts that were sent by Paul Schrader to Charles Shyer, and they are in seven separate auctions, and each of them has this paragraph on them! Note that this script was consigned to us directly from director/screenwriter Charles Shyer. Mr. Shyer is the director of many extremely popular movies from the 1970s to the present, many of which are romantic comedies, including House Calls, Private Benjamin, Baby Boom, remakes of Father of the Bride and The Parent Trap, and many others. Over the years, he collected scripts, which he received primarily in two different ways. He was friends with screenwriters, directors, and producers during those years, and they would sometimes send him scripts of their movies to get his opinion of them, and many of those are offered here. In addition, as a member of the screenwriter's branch of the Academy, he was sent many scripts where the producers hoped that their script would be nominated for a Best Screenwriting Academy Award, and many of these have "for your consideration" printed on the cover. This is a rare opportunity to purchase original scripts that come directly from the personal collection of a prominent director/screenwriter! Condition: very good to fine. There is very minor wear on the covers, but otherwise, the script is in really nice condition. Note that we have photographed the cover of the script, the title page, the final page of the script (the one that reads "THE END"), and one or more interior pages. These images will not only provide important information about the script, but they also allow you to closely judge the condition of the script. The script is 100% complete!
