An Unfolded German Travel Poster (measures 25" x 40" [64 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

Come to Germany, the 1935 German poster ("Information and handbooks about Germany from all tourist and travel agencies") encouraging people to visit Germany, and featuring Max Eschle art of The Bamberg Horseman statue with cities, towns and the Brandenburg Gate in the background. Note that this poster was created by the Reichsbahnzentrale fur den Deutschen Reiseverkehr (RDV). The RDV's purpose was to promote travel from abroad to Germany as well as internal tourism. The Nazis saw the Bamberg Horseman as a secular embodiment of racial purity, despite the fact that the art of thirteenth-century Bamberg was produced from a mix of French, German, and Italian traditions. Some also imagined that the Horseman was facing East to conquer the Slavic nations, when in reality the sculpture gazes West, and Stephen I of Hungary is among the likeliest candidates for the Horseman's identity.
Artist: Max Eschle

Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has diagonal creases in the bottom corners and some tiny brown dot stains scattered in the bottom 2" of the poster (see our image).
