An Original (re-titled "Curtain Call") Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) Comet Over Broadway, the 1938 Busby Berkeley New York City stage acting theater romantic love triangle family relationship melodrama (a wacky melodrama of a woman who wants to be an actress, and her jealous husband kills a fellow actor and goes to jail for it, leaving her to raise her infant daughter, and she becomes a major star, but is conflicted with her new love and her obligation to her jailed husband!) starring Kay Francis, Ian Hunter, John Litel, Donald Crisp, Minna Gombell, and Dudley Dickerson. Note that it seems especially odd that while this was a Warner Bros. movie directed by Busby Berkeley about Broadway stage acting, it is not a musical (except for background music). If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the still shows a great candid image of director Busby Berkeley giving stars Ian Hunter and Kay Francis advice about this movie, while he is holding the script in his hands. Also note that a paper snipe was glued to the back of the still, and then folded over to the front. Normally, this was done rather than gluing the snipe to the back, so that the snipe could be unfolded and the still could be displayed with the snipe unfolded, which would let moviegoers read the information on the snipe in the lobby. However, this snipe was glued on so that some of the written portion is only readable when the snipe is folded over the bottom of the still, which slightly defeats this purpose (although one can see the top of the still and the snipe at the same time, which could not be done if the snipe was glued on the back). This was done with many stills of the 1930s, but often, the snipes are either partially or completely lost, because it is easier for them to be torn off. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, THE SNIPE DOES NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE FRONT OF THE STILL! Note that the movie is called "Curtain Call" on the snipe of this still, which was the working title for this movie! Condition: fine. There are a very few faint emulsion scuffs scattered around the edges of the still, but they are truthfully not at all noticeable except when the still is tilted to the light.
