eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 8a256 LOT OF 11 REPRO LOBBY CARDS FROM LONE RANGER SERIALS '80s super scarce serial! Date Sold 6/26/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 11 1980s REPRODUCTION lobby cards from The Lone Ranger serial, which is the 1938 John English & William Witney masked hero cowboy western serial ("The Lone Ranger A Man of Mystery"; "Republic Pictures presents The Motion Picture Version of 'The Lone Ranger'"; "Republic Serial in 15 Episodes"; "Based on the radio serial, 'The Lone Ranger' created by the radio station WXYZ Detroit, and written by Fran Striker"; the movie is set up unusually, with five men suspected of being The Lone Ranger, and the audience has no clue as to which man it is; they used Billy Bletcher's voice for the actual Lone Ranger, so that when each of the five men spoke their lines, the audience would not be able to pick them out as having the same voice as The Lone Ranger!) starring Lee Powell, Silver Chief (as Silver the Lone Ranger's horse), Chief Thundercloud (billed as "Chief Thunder-Cloud", as Tonto), Lynne Roberts, Wally Wales, Bruce Bennett (sometimes billed as "Herman Brix"), Lane Chandler, George Montgomery, and William Farnum. . Note that Wally Wales started out as a wrangler on cowboy movies in the mid 1910s, and then became a star in B-westerns in the mid 1920s. His career started downhill in the middle 1930s, and he (perhaps to save face) started taking much smaller parts under the name "Hal Taliaferro" (he had been born "Floyd Taliaferro Alderson"). He continued appearing in many minor roles until the mid 1950s when he retired. Also, note that first release movie paper of any sort from this very first movie version of The Lone Ranger is extremely scarce, likely because it was bought by Lone Ranger fans decades ago, and has never returned to the hobby! Note that these come from a man who collected serial lobby cards for decades. He knew that there were some serial cards that were SO scarce that he might never acquire them, so when he would encounter another collector who had ones he didn't have, he would often pay them to have color copies made (they look like they were made on a color copier), and most were on a fairly thin paper, but some were on a heavy stock, and you can tell which kind of paper each lot of repros is by looking at our condition area below. We are auctioning all of his repro serial lobby cards in many bulk lots (there are no others). This is a likely one time opportunity to acquire nice reproductions of extremely scarce serial lobby cards! Condition: very good to fine. These REPRODUCTION lobby cards were printed on a thin paper stock. The quality is pretty good, but they were likely printed on a color copier (see our images).
