Date Sold 6/20/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Set of 2 1960 Re-Release Theatrical Unfolded Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 40" x 60" [102 x 152 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, the classic 1954 Alfred Hitchcock (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) thriller ("Based on the short story by Cornell Woolrich"; "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes"; about a man who breaks his leg and is forced to stay at his home until he's better; during this time he observes his neighbors and does some voyeuristic detective work) starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart; as Jeff), Grace Kelly (as Lisa), Wendell Corey (as Detective Lt. Doyle), Thelma Ritter (as Stella), Raymond Burr (as Lars Thorwald), Judith Evelyn (as Miss Lonelyhearts), Georgine Darcy (as Miss Torso), Jesslyn Fax (as Miss Hearing Aid), Rand Harper, Havis Davenport (Harper and Davenport played the "newlyweds"), and Ross Bagdasarian (as the "Songwriter"). Note that Raymond Burr had appeared in movies for seven years before this, but always had minor roles, usually playing the "heavy". It would be three more years before his big break in 1957, when he became TV's "Perry Mason"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very interesting pair of posters! When this movie was re-released in 1960 (to capitalize on the success of "Psycho"), 40x60 posters were made for it that included an image of Hitchcock at the top, with the tagline "WATCH IT! ...if your nerves can stand it after PSYCHO". For the international market, a "Spanish language" version was also made, where all the text was translated to Spanish (for use in Spanish speaking countries). But until now, we did not know that a third version was made as well! This third version had no text printed anywhere on the poster (except for the copyright notice at the bottom and a tiny Paramount logo), so that any country could print titles, taglines, and credits in its own language into the blank areas! We were consigned both an example of the English language version of the 1960 re-release 40x60 poster (which we have never auctioned before), and also an example of the "no text" style (which we also have never auctioned before), and we are auctioning them together as a "set" of two posters! So the winner of this auction will own TWO extremely rare posters! Condition: good. The poster with the text has pinholes in the top border and the remnants of a paper snipe at the top of the yellow box, where some snipe was over that area (there are smudges throughout that yellow area). There are some horizontal folds scattered throughout the poster and creases and smudges scattered in the title area, with some creases and small tears in parts of the left and right borders. The poster without the text has some light horizontal folds scattered throughout, with many creases in the bottom blank area and smudges scattered throughout the poster (see our images of both posters to get a good sense of their condition).
