An Original Vintage 2 3/4" x 4 1/2" [7 x 11 cm] Photo (Learn More)

Crime School, the 1938 Lewis Seiler juvenile delinquent reform school crime melodrama ("Where today's kids are turned into tomorrow's killers"; "From a story by Crane Wilbur"; a sequel of sorts to the immensely popular "Dead End"; these movies were so successful that they spawned dozens more sequels and spin-offs) starring Humphrey Bogart, Gale Page, The Dead End Kids (Billy Halop, Bobby Jordan, Leo Gorcey, Gabriel Dell, Huntz Hall, and Bernard Punsley), Charles Trowbridge, Spencer Charters, Donald Briggs, and Cy Kendall (as the warden). Note that this movie was a remake of "The Mayor of Hell", a 1933 James Cagney movie, and it was remade yet again just one year later as "Hell's Kitchen" with Ronald Reagan (apparently the public did not grow tired of this plot in the 1930s!). Also note that this was the second movie with the "Dead End Kids" who had great success in 1937's "Dead End", where they had also co-starred with Humphrey Bogart!

Important Added Info: Note that for the showing of this movie, this theater made the front of their theater look like a prison, with "stone" walls and bars over the one-sheet frames, and they had a standee of a life-sized Dead End Kid next to the box office window! Note that in October of 2017, we auctioned a wonderful collection of 27 photos (most measured 3.5x5.25, but some measured slightly smaller) that were taken by a man who worked at a large movie theater in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He created wonderful theater fronts and homemade posters (some that were displayed outside the theater and some inside the theater), and after he finished making his displays, he would take a picture of each and then he put them in a scrapbook. Collectors rightfully bid aggressively on these photos, and all but 4 auctioned for more than $20 each, and 7 sold for $100 or more, with two selling for over $300 each! Now we are offering another 27 photos from this amazing scrapbook! We auctioned many of the best titles in the first group, but there are a number of equally interesting titles in this group. After this, there will be just a few more theater front photos left to auction from the scrapbook, so for the most part, this is the last chance to acquire these very rare to find photos of original theater fronts and local theater displays from this time period. Each of the 27 photos is in a separate auction with this paragraph on them.

Condition: good to very good. There are smudges and some stains in the blank borders. The photo was stapled and glued to an album page, and there are staple holes in the corners and glue stains on the back, but they do not affect the front (see our images).
