An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel Movie Poster (measures 47 1/2" x 62"; known as a 'grande' poster in France) (Learn More) The Big Noise, the 1944 Malcolm St. Clair (billed as "Mal St. Clair") World War II (WWII) detective crime comedy (about two janitors in a detective agency who pretend to be real detectives, and who are hired to guard an inventor of a new kind of bomb!) starring Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy (Laurel and Hardy), Doris Merrick, Arthur Space, Veda Ann Borg, Robert 'Bobby' Blake, and Esther Howard NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: I. Benari Important Added Info: Note that this French one-panel measures 47 1/2" x 62". Condition: good. The poster had many creases, tears, and areas of paper loss in the top 1/3 of the vertical foldline. There were areas of paper loss at most crossfolds, and creases, tears, and some scattered paper loss on the other foldlines. There were water stains down the left of the top half of the poster. The entire poster had darkened. The poster was mounted by a not-very-talented restorer, and the linen does not lay completely flat, and the restoration that was done is pretty noticeable. I would say this poster would greatly benefit by being re-linenbacked by a talented restorer. Once it is properly re-linenbacked, the poster will look great, but it WILL require a good amount of paint restoration. This poster was linenbacked, and it had significant defects which were only somewhat repaired during the linenbacking process, or were not repaired at all (we describe both the defects as well as the quality of the restoration below, and based on those comments, you can easily determine which type of poster it is). You should also look at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).
