An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Whispering Tales, the circa 1930s black African American crime mystery murder thriller ("Her kisses were death traps!") starring Laura Bowman, Walter Mosley, and Slick Chester (an advanced collector tells us that Alfred "Slick" Chester was born on February 26, 1900 in New York City, New York, USA. He was a famous actor. Chester started his career with the movie "The Girl From Chicago" which was released in 1932. He died in January 1978 in New York). Since we can find no reference to this movie anywhere, it seems possible that it is actually a re-titling of "Bondage", the 1932 Milton Frackman movie, but we say this solely because a collector sent us a news clipping from 1932 which describes a movie called "Bondage" that stars Laura Bowman and Slick Chester (which was a movie based on a story written by Donald Heywood, and that article also announces a second movie called "The Black King" which was released). We don't know if either of these movies were actually made, because many of the early all-black cast movies are poorly documented. So it is quite possible this is actually from a movie called "Bondage", but of course it could also be from a forgotten movie (or one that never got made) called "Whispering Tales". If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. The poster had many horizontal tears and creases in addition to the regular folds. There were smudges around the edges of the poster and in the solid white areas. There were pinholes, creases, tears, and some areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed. Rather than do extensive restoration to try to make the poster look "perfect", the restorer chose instead to just do minor touch up to the image area. From close up, you can see the defects in the image described above, but from any distance away, they are not very noticeable or distracting. Learn More about condition grades
