An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook Cover (pb; measures 12" x 18" [30 x 46 cm]; 2 pages) (Learn More)

The Riding Avenger, the 1936 Harry L. Fraser cowboy western starring Hoot Gibson ("In Another BIG-THRILL Western..."), Ruth Mix (daughter of Tom Mix, who appeared in around a dozen movies, starting as a teenager), Buzz Barton, June Gale and Stanley Blystone. Note that Buzz Barton was born William Lamoreaux, but at the age of 12, he played a small role in a B-western, billed as "Billy Lamar". Over the next two years, he appeared in a total of nine B-westerns, being billed under various names. Apparently, he was quite a horseman, and in 1927, he starred in "The Boy Rider" as a youthful western hero, and he was billed as "Buzz Barton". This proved to be a very popular movie, and over the next two years, he appeared in around a dozen similar movies, as the "World's Greatest Juvenile Western Star", always playing David "Red" Hepner (because of Barton's red hair). Over the next few years, he continued making B-westerns, playing various characters, but becoming an adult hurt his career, and he was reduced to playing uncredited parts in scores of B-westerns in the late 1930s. He left the movies in 1942, when he enlisted in the Navy (even though he only grew to 5'2" as an adult).

Important Added Info: Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of the pressbook, plus an image of a two-page spread from inside of the pressbook (we do NOT picture any supplements or heralds, if there are any included with this pressbook), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: fair, NO CUTS. Only the cover of the pressbook is present (it was likely originally 4 pages), and the back cover, which had some of the poster images, is missing, but there are some poster images on the back of the cover.
