An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Dick Tracy, the 1937 Alan James & Ray Taylor detective mystery crime action serial ("A Republic Serial"; "Ace G-man... Waging a One-Man war on crime!"; "15 action episodes"; "Based on cartoon strip by Chester Gould"; "Original Story by Morgan Cox and George Morgan") starring Ralph Byrd (in the title role as Dick Tracy), Kay Hughes, Smiley Burnette, Lee Van Atta (as Junior), Francis X. Bushman (as Chief Clive Anderson), and John Picorri (as Moloch). Note that this was the very first Dick Tracy movie! It is surprising that it took six years for it to reach the screen, but once it did, it proved very popular and was followed by three more serials over the next four years, and then after a four year break, the first Dick Tracy feature film was released, which again proved extremely popular, and there were three sequels to that. There were animated cartoons on TV in the 1950s and in 1990, Warren Beatty made a live action movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has a very unusual defect. It was originally printed for one of the 15 chapters, with the episode number and the title printed in the bottom area. However, a theater used it when they were showing episode 8, which was not the one this poster was printed for, and they had someone put yellow paint over the entire bottom area and then painted in the new title and episode number in blue paint over the yellow. So while the poster looks like it's for episode 8, it really isn't. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. As noted above, the poster has an unusual defect with the episode title being entirely painted over at bottom. It also has creases, scuffs, and tiny paper loss along all the folds and there were tears and paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was likely in good condition prior to linenbacking. We leave it to the bidders to decide how much to take off for the repainting of the bottom episode title area (the poster will display pretty well on the new owner's wall, because almost no one would realize that it was a title for the wrong episode).
