An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French Four-Panel Movie Poster (4p; measures 91" x 125" [231 x 318 cm]; printed in 4 pieces) (Learn More)

La Chanson d'une Nuit (literally translates to "The Song of the Night"), the 1932 Anatole Litvak & Pierre Colombier French romantic opera music comedy (about an opera singer who has endless young female fans, so he goes to a small town where he is unknown, but he realizes he misses the limelight, although he finds someone to love in the tiny town) starring Jan Kiepura (billed as "Jean Kiepura"; real-life Polish opera singer who made a rare film appearance in this movie!), Magda Schneider, Pierre Brasseur, Charlotte Lyses, Clara Tambour, Charles Lamy, and Lucien Baroux. Note that this movie was also made in English and German versions. Universal did the same thing with "Dracula" in 1931. They filmed the movie twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, with two entirely different casts, U.S. actors for the English version and mostly Latin actors for the Spanish version, obviously for release in Spanish speaking countries, and the same was done with this movie, except that there were three versions (both the German language and English language versions also starred Jan Kiepura and Magda Schneider). Even more confusing, when the movie was released in the U.S. in 1933, it had yet a third title (especially because we have seen first release posters that call the movie "Be Mine To Night" AND "Be Mine To-Night"!). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Artist: Roger Vacher
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster (we have never auctioned ANY movie paper from this French movie)! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Also note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that this French four-panel measures 91" x 125" [231 x 318 cm]. Finally, note that this French four-panel was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap.

Condition: good. There is some darkening and staining along most of the folds and the paper is fragile in those areas (see our image).
