Date Sold 6/26/2016 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 12 1980s REPRODUCTION 8x10 stills from Destination Moon, the 1950 Irving Pichel science fiction (sci-fi) thriller ("Two years in the making!"; produced by George Pal; based on an original book and screenplay by Robert A. Heinlein, the superlatively talented science fiction writer who gave Hollywood a try and quit when he found they did not care about scientific accuracy, and that, under the Hollywood system at that time, promises were often made to writers, both financially and creatively, that were not kept! This movie was one of the very first of the 1950s science fiction movies, and it intended to accurately portray the first moon landing; at the time, people considered it wild science fiction, and yet it became science fact within 20 years!) starring John Archer, Warner Anderson, Tom Powers, Dick Wesson, and Erin O'Brien-Moore. Note that Robert Heinlein had become friendly with director Fritz Lang during World War II, and the two had planned to make a "space" movie together! But the project fell apart when Heinlein realized that Lang really wanted to have complete control of the project, which Heinlein would not accept, and he ended up signing a deal with George Pal, and that was still disappointing to him, and he never received all of the money he was promised either. But one wonders what that "Heinlein/Fritz Lang" movie would have been like! Note that these come from a man who collected 1950s and 1960s horror/sci-fi for many decades (at least since the 1980s). He knew that there were some stills (especially great candid ones) that were SO scarce that he might never acquire them, so on those, he would purchase high quality 8" x 10" reproductions (we believe he acquired those in the 1980s). We are auctioning a large number of his repro horror/sci-fi stills (including many candid images) in many bulk lots in this set of auctions. This is a rare opportunity to acquire nice reproductions of extremely scarce stills (including fantastic candid images we have never seen before)! Condition: very good to fine.
