An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) The Devil With Hitler, the 1942 Gordon Douglas World War II (WWII) anti-Hitler slapstick comedy streamliner ("Plaster the painter with laughs! Hit Hitler where it hurts the most!"; "HE! HE!"; "HA HA!"; "Here's the comedy that bounces the Axis on the canvas-that turns their black-out into knock-outs! It fires more roars than a machine gun!"; "It's the funniest thing since Adolph grew his mustache!"; "Be there when the laugh offensive starts... to bust every mitt that ever waved 'Heil Hitler'!"; "The ROARING comedy that hangs a wallop on Hitler, Sinks its fists in the Japs, and slaps down Mussolini's ears!"; produced by Hal Roach) starring Alan Mowbray (in the title role as The Devil), Bobby Watson (in the title role as Adolf Hitler), Joe Devlin (as Mussolini), Marjorie Woodworth, George E. Stone (as Suki Yaki), Douglas Fowley, Joe Devlin, and Herman Bing. Note that in the early days of World War II, comedy movies like this were made depicting Hitler as a buffoon. When news of the atrocities he had committed began to surface, that ended the cartoonish portrayals! Note that this was one of two movies that Hal Roach made during World War II that featured this group of actors portraying comic versions of Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito (the other one was "That Nazty Nuisance"). Bobby Watson also appeared as Hitler in other movies, but naturally, the end of World War II (and the death of Hitler) reduced his opportunities to keep playing Hitler, although he did have a few cameo appearances after the war as well.
