An Original Vintage Theatrical Other Company Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) High, Wide and Handsome, the 1937 Rouben Mamoulian traveling medicine show romantic musical ("Original Story, Screen Play, and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II"; "Music by Jerome Kern"; "By Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II, Creators of 'Show Boat'"; "Immortal Music!"; "The Big Show is here!"; "The most glorious musical romance of the year!"; set in 1870s Pennsylvania; about the owner of a traveling medicine show and his beautiful daughter who are stranded in a town, and a local prominent family takes them in, and the son of that family falls in love with the medicine show man's daughter) starring Irene Dunne, Randolph Scott, Dorothy Lamour (23 years-old in this role!), Akim Tamiroff, Raymond Walburn, Ben Blue, Charles Bickford, Elizabeth Patterson, and William Frawley NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this was printed by the "other company". This was a company in the Midwest that from roughly 1936 to roughly 1941 printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They never have the name of the releasing studio on the poster or any of the lobby cards, but many years later, noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben discovered that the name of the company was "Associated Displays Corporation" and that they were based in Manhattan, New York (oddly, no collectors knew the name of this company for decades!). Sometimes, "other company" posters or lobby cards have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters or lobby cards! Also note that this poster has never been folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Condition: good. The poster was never folded. The entire poster has darkened, except for parts of three borders. There are some stains and smudges scattered throughout, and a diagonal scuff near the center of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
