An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

Long Pants, the 1927 Frank Capra silent romantic love triangle slapstick comedy ("Longer and louder Langdon laughs!"; about a child-like man who has been kept in "short pants" by his parents all through his adolescence, but when they finally let him wear long pants, they expect him to marry his childhood sweetheart, but instead, he goes after a "fast" woman from the big city, and he has many misadventures with her, but through it all, his childhood sweetheart waits patiently by!) starring Harry Langdon, Gladys Brockwell, Alan Roscoe, Priscilla Bonner, and Alma Bennett, and Frankie Darro. Note that legendary director Frank Capra had gotten his start in 1924 when he was hired by Hal Roach as a gag writer. However, he wanted to become a director, and Roach refused, and Capra went to work for Mack Sennett, writing for Harry Langdon comedy shorts. In 1925, when Langdon left Sennett, Capra went with him, and he wrote several of Langdon's best comedies, including "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp" and "The Strong Man", which Capra also directed. This movie, "Long Pants", was his next movie, but he was having a falling out with Langdon, and after this movie was completed, Langdon fired Capra, and decided to direct his own movies (like Charlie Chaplin), but those movies did poorly, while of course, Frank Capra soon went to Columbia, where he became their number one director, and he had a long string of massive hits in the 1930s and 1940s, including "It Happened One Night", "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town", and many others!

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that posters from ANY of the movies Harry Langdon made with Frank Capra are unbelievably scarce! We have only previously auctioned a single insert from "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp" out of the ten movies that the pair made together between 1925 and 1927 (and that was 21 years ago!) until we were consigned this wonderful half-sheet, which is the very first item we have ever auctioned from this movie that was not a still or a glass slide. It may be many years before we receive another poster from any of these movies! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded. Most of the bottom blank border was missing, as were small parts of the bottom edge of the image. It had pinholes, tears, and tiny paper loss around the rest of the poster. There were some tears and stains near the center of the poster, entering the upper part of the woman's face and in the center of Langdon's clothes, with a few tiny tears and paper loss scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
