An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Chantecler, the 1910s silent romantic farmyard animal melodrama ("Told in words and pictures") starring Maude Adams. Note that Maude Adams (a legendary early stage actress who played the title role in Peter Pan in 1905) was in the original Broadway version of "Chandecler" in 1911, and apparently either reprised her role in this movie adaptation of the play, or possibly, this is advertising for the stage version (or possibly advertising for an intended movie version that never happened). We can find no reference to a movie adaptation of this play, and in fact, the Internet says that Maude Adams only made a single screen test in the 1930s, more indication that this never became an actual movie. Note that Chantecler is a play written by Edmond Rostand (author of Cyrano de Bergerac) in which the title character is a rooster, and all the lead characters are farmyard animals, so we are not exactly sure how this would have been translated to the screen. In theatrical versions, the actors wear animal costumes, and we imagine there is a good chance this was intended for the movie version as well. However, the only possible movie advertising we have ever seen from the movie version is a title lobby card. It solely says "Told in Words and Pictures", which seems to surely not be for a stage play, but we guess anything is possible. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Please read the above! We can find no indication of this movie having been made, but given that is printed on the title card (which it looks exactly like title cards from the 1910s), we can only imagine that this was a proposed movie that was never made. But we can't prove that, so please do not bid on this card unless you can accept these unanswered questions about it. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good to very good. There are tears and small areas of paper loss around the edges, and the star's name written in pencil in the right blank border. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
