A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/4" [22 x 29 cm]; 184 pages) (Learn More)

Wid's Year Book 1918, the 1971 re-publishing of this 1918 reference book with information and statistics from all facets of the film industry at that time. Included is the comprehensive list of actors and actresses and their credits. Also included are detailed lists of industry personnel and production companies as well as much information about distribution. If the unusual name "Wid" seems familiar, it is because Mr. Gunning started the most famous trade magazine in early Hollywood, "Wid's Daily" (the title was changed to "The Film Daily" after he sold it)! It was the number one source of information about the film industry (and later television) until it ceased publication in 1970. It was a must buy for everyone in the film industry. In addition to the daily edition, there was also a larger weekly version. Each issue had lots of statistics about current productions, and also ads as well. After Wid Gunning sold his publication, he produced (between 1921 and 1925) four Charles Dickens adaptations in Denmark for release in Scandinavian countries! He lost much of his fortune on those four movies, and turned to screenwriting. This book was published by Arno Press in 1971, and we don't know if they also published reprintings of other Wid's Year Books. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Important Added Info: Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads.

Condition: good. Oddly, the entire book became warped in the upper one-third, and it now has a pronounced "bow" to it. However, this does not affect the interior pages at all, and is merely a visual defect when looking at the hard cover, but not the interiors.
