An Original Vintage Theatrical Stage Play Sheet Music (measures 9 1/2" x 12" [24 x 30 cm]; 6 pages) (Learn More) Topsy and Eva, the 1923 stage play suggested the characters in "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The play was written by Catherine C. Cushing. It opened with "The White Sisters" playing the lead roles, and later The Duncan Sisters took over the lead parts, and in 1927, a movie version was made starring The Duncan Sisters. It is interesting (and sad) to note that there was a major change in one of the songs ("I Never Had a Mammy") between the version sung by The White Sisters and by The Duncan Sisters. In the earlier version, there is a line where Eva sings to the dying Topsy, "And when you die and go to Heaven you'll be so proud, you see, the dearest God will make you white, so you can be like me". Apparently THAT was too much even for 1923 theatergoers, and they changed the lyrics! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this sheet music is for the song "Rememb'ring". Condition: good. There are some stains on the cover. Learn More about condition grades
