An Unfolded Circa 1980s German Special Poster (measures 33" x 46 3/4" [84 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Tierpark Hellabrunn (Hellabrunn Zoo) is a zoological garden which was founded in 1911 in Munich, Germany. The zoo is known for having cageless enclosures and was the first zoo in the world organized by geographical aspects. In 2013, the zoo was ranked 4th best zoo in Europe, and it focuses on conservation and captive breeding rare species such as the rare drill and silvery gibbons. Artist: Ludwig Hohlwein Important Added Info: Ludwig Hohlwein was a German artist from the 1890s until his passing in 1949. He is one of the best known German poster artists (though his reputation suffered because of his work with the Nazis)! Initially an architect student who illustrated for newspapers, he went on to design book decorations, booklets, and advertising posters. He joined the Nazi Regime in 1933 after refusing an offer to emigrate to the United States, and created government program posters as well as advertisements for the 1936 Munich Olympics. Poster historian Alain Weill says "Hohlwein was the most prolific and brilliant German posterist of the 20th century. Beginning with his first efforts, Hohlwein found his style with disconcerting facility. It would vary little for the next forty years. The drawing was perfect from the start, nothing seemed alien to him, and in any case, nothing posed a problem for him. His figures are full of touches of color and a play of light and shade that brings them out of their background and gives them substance". Note that this poster must be sent in a tube that is over 32" long (which is why it is in this set of auctions). You can tell how long the tube will need to be by adding 2 inches to the shorter dimension of the length or width (so 40x60s need to be sent in a 42 inch long tube, etc). Most of these posters (with the notable exception of paper banners) CAN be combined in the same tube together, with a few exceptions. Bear in mind that a very long tube (42 inches or longer) will cost a lot more to send than a 30" tube, so bear that in mind before bidding on this poster. Condition: very good to fine. The poster has never been folded and it is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
