An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, the 1940 Ford Beebe and Ray Taylor science fiction (sci-fi) comic-strip action adventure fantasy serial ("12 NEW dynamic episodes"; "From the Alex Raymond newspaper feature owned and copyrighted by King Features Syndicate") starring Buster Crabbe ("as Flash Gordon"), Carol Hughes ("as Dale Arden"), Charles Middleton ("as Emperor Ming"), Anne Gwynne ("as Sonja"), Frank Shannon ("as Dr. Zarkov"), Shirley Dean ("as Princess Aura"), and Roland Drew ("as Prince Barin"). Note that the first movie based on Alex Raymond's great newspaper comic strip was "Flash Gordon" in 1936. It was followed by "Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars" in 1938, and then this movie in 1940. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this 'whole serial' title card! Note also that there was a 1940s re-release of this serial, and the lobby cards from that re-release are often mistakenly sold as originals, but the originals are dated and printed on a heavier paper (as this one is), while the re-releases are undated and printed on a thin paper. That early re-release might account for how incredibly rare the first release cards are! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good. There is faint water staining in the lower left blank border, with some tiny brown dot stains in the rest of the left blank border (only a very few of those tiny dot stains extend into the image area; see our super-sized image). There are some other brown stains in the upper right blank border and tiny paper loss in the top left blank corner. There is a piece of tape on the back of the center of the top border, but it was not put there for any restoration purpose. Other than the above defects, which mostly only affect the blank white borders, the card is in nice condition! One could certainly display the card just as it is, or if one wanted to, the blank border stains could be restored (either with or without backing the card). Learn More about condition grades
