An Original Vintage Folded Circus Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 40 3/4") (Learn More) Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Combined Shows, the 1938 circus poster ("Terrell Jacobs The Lion King presenting the world's most sensational group of jungle-bred performers") featuring art of many ferocious lions surrounding a man with a whip. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. The modern version of the circus started in 1919 when the Barnum & Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, a circus created by P. T. Barnum and James Anthony Bailey, was merged with the Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows. With weakening attendance and high operating costs, the circus closed on May 21st, 2017 after 146 years. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded across the middle at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair to good. There is water staining and some 'softening' and paper loss around the edges of the poster with some pieces of tape on the front and back around the edges. There is a small tear in the background at right and there are some creases throughout the poster. Fortunately, the poster's areas of paper loss are mostly confined to border and background areas and it seems likely that the water stains can be removed by chemical means during the linenbacking process and the poster will display nicely. However, please do not bid on this poster unless you are willing to accept its defects or are willing to pay to have it restored. Learn More about condition grades
