Artist: Josep Renau Montoro Important Added Info: Note that this poster is double-sided, but not in the regular way. The front of the poster features striking artwork by Josep Renau Montoro who was a Spanish artist famous for his poster and lithographic work as well as his photography. Renau was a Communist and during the Spanish Civil War he sided with the Republicans who ultimately lost the war. The back of the poster has text (in Catalan) that indicates that this poster was created for the "Casa Del Poble" theater for a benefit showing of "Chapayev" "to benefit the victims of fascism" held on Saturday and Sunday, August, 29th and 30th 1936. We know there are reproductions of Renau's other work from this movie but after closely examining this poster (and given the text on the back) we believe this poster to be authentic. If anyone knows more about this fascinating poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that we have provided an image of each side, but please realize that the winner of this auction will receive ONE poster! Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. The text on the back of the poster very slightly bleeds through to the front and there is some light rippling throughout the poster from exposure to moisture. Overall, the poster is in pretty nice condition especially given its history! Learn More about condition grades
