Date Sold 12/15/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 12 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) The Night of January Sixteenth (16th), the 1941 William Clemens romantic mystery crime thriller ("Based on the play by Ayn Rand") starring Robert Preston, Ellen Drew, Nils Asther, Margaret Hayes, Clarence Kolb, Alice White, Cecil Kellaway, and Cliff Nazarro. Note that legendary writer Ayn Rand arrived in the U.S. in 1925, and was able to get various jobs in Hollywood, but her first screenwriting sale was in 1932 to Universal Pictures of "Red Pawn" (which was never produced). In 1934, she wrote this play, which was on the stage in both Hollywood and Broadway, and it had the great gimmick where, near the end of the show, there would be an intermission, and a "jury" (selected from the audience) would vote for one two endings, and then the cast would perform the ending the audience's jury had voted for! When this was made into a film in 1941, the first movie made from one of Ayn Rand's works, the technology was not then available to make the gimmick work, so it had to be abandoned (of course, nowadays, with computers, it would be super simple to use this gimmick in a movie, and to have every member of the audience vote each performance!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: SUPER IMPORTANT! THIS LOT CONTAINS 12 STILLS, BUT ONLY EIGHT OF THE STILLS ARE PICTURED! THE HIGH BIDDER ON THIS LOT WILL RECEIVE 12 STILLS FROM THIS MOVIE, and NOT just the eight pictured! We realize there is an element of gambling to this, but we made only a small effort to find the best eight stills in these lots, and, if you have any willingness to gamble at all, you may find that you get some great stills that were not pictured! Please do NOT bid on this lot unless you can accept that you are only seeing eight of the stills. Note that on our larger lots of black and white stills (usually ones with nine or more in the lot), there are a small number of lots where there may be one or several duplicated stills in the stills not pictured (we only picture eight of the stills on most of the black and white lots). We tried to note when some of the stills not pictured were duplicates to the ones that were pictured, but we may not have caught that every time, so please do not bid on the lots of nine or more stills unless you can accept the possibility that there may be some duplicated stills contained in the lot (there also may be a very few of the lots with eight or less stills that have a duplicate in them, but that is far less likely and you could see them in our photo). Condition: very good. Some of the stills have a slight unevenness to the emulsion, but it is mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light, and the stills are in pretty nice condition!
