An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Richard Arlen was born Sylvanus Richard Van Mattimore in 1899 and was a pilot in the Royal Canadian Flying Corps in World War I, but he never saw action. After the war, it took him several years to find himself, and he was discovered by Hollywood in the early 1920s, but it still took him several years of very minor roles (many uncredited) before he got his big break as one of the leads in "Wings" in 1927. He became a lead star, and had no trouble with the transition to sound, but his career went downhill in the late 1930s. He became deaf at the end of the 1940s, but an operation restored his hearing, and he continued in movies into the 1960s. He passed away in 1976 at the age of 76. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Richard Arlen! Note that there is much information on the back of the still about its owner, a man named "H.E. McCroskey". It looks like Mr. McCroskey sent it to Richard Arlen to autograph, and that when it came back to him, it was not personalized in the way he had asked Mr. Arlen to do it, and so he himself corrected the inscription from whatever it used to say to "Mac"! Condition: good. There are tape stains and surface paper loss in the center of the top border, slightly extending into the edge of the image background. There are diagonal creases in the top right corner and bottom left corner. There is slight paper loss in three blank corners. Learn More about condition grades
