An Original Vintage Theatrical Deluxe 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Ava Gardner was an actress from the 1940s to the 1980s. Surprisingly, Hollywood did not recognize the talents of this beautiful actress for years, because she had a long string of tiny or uncredited roles before she became a star! Some of her movies include: Mogambo (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), The Killers, On the Beach, The Barefoot Contessa, Bhowani Junction, and many others! She was married three times to famous celebrities: Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw, and Frank Sinatra. She also struck a friendship with Ernest Hemingway, who, after witnessing Gardner swim naked in his pool, told his staff "the water is not to be emptied"! She passed away in 1990 at the age of 67. Important Added Info: Note that studios had to submit their photos for approval, and those photos were often unretouched, because there was no sense in touching them up if they were not approved. Often, they would touch up the negative to make the star's skin appear perfect and unblemished and unlined, but there was also the issue of a photo being deemed "too revealing" or "too sexy" by the censors! This portrait of Ava Gardner is unretouched, and the censor who reviewed it was not happy with the hint of cleavage showing above her gown, and he put a pen mark in that area on the front and stamped the photo "RETOUCH AS INDICATED" on the back! Also note that this still measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] and that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Condition: very good to fine.
