An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Deadly Mantis, the 1957 Nathan Juran Universal giant insect praying mantis science fiction (sci-fi) monster horror thriller ("This was the day that engulfed the world in terror!"; "The most dangerous monster that ever lived!"; "Out of a million years ago...a thousand tons of horror!"; "Shattering the icy shackles!"; "Hungering for human prey!"; "Dwarfing man's machines!"; "Jet planes can't stop him"; "Flamethrowers no avail!"; "Trapped by science!"; "This was the day that engulfed the world in terror!") starring Craig Stevens, Alix Talton, William Hopper, Florenz Ames, and Donald Randolph NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Ken Sawyer Condition: good. The card had thumb tacks in the corners, which left holes and stains. There is paper loss in the top corners, caused by rough removal of the tacks. The card was once attached to a mat with thin pieces of clear tape on the back of the borders, and that tape has yellowed, but it does not affect the front. The back of the card has darkened somewhat (caused by being in contact with a backing board), but it only affects the front where it slightly darkened around the edges. There was a 2" tear in the top center of the card that was repaired with clear tape from the back and a 3" horizontal crease to the right of that tear. There is a faint tiny stain in the left of the "M" of "MANTIS", and there are a few smudges scattered in the image. There are two pieces of paper tape on the back of both the center of the left and right borders, but they were not put there for any restoration purpose. In spite of the card's many defects, it still displays pretty nicely just as it is, and certainly, it is an excellent candidate for restoration, because the image area has few defects.
